second weekend reflection by Li Yiming

Second weekend reflection by Li Yiming
This weekend we have appreciation activities with our buddies in victoria junior college. We start our activities at 11 am. Firstly, we show them around U town and have lunch there. They are amazed by the modern buildings and special design of U town. We introduce several seminar rooms that we usually take classes inside. After lunch, we go to kent ridge park that is near west coast. It is a natural park that has beautiful scenery. We walk, chat and appreciate the scenery together. We talk the current things happen in class, and I introduce NUS to them. Although we are exhausted after several hour’s walk, we all enjoy the appreciation activities very much. In the end, I give my buddy the gift that I have prepared and she also gives me gift. All the buddies exchange their gifts and express their will to keep their friendship. I also write a letter for my buddy’s class to thank them for the help they give me. I believe our friendship will exist forever.

First weekend Reflection by Li Yiming

My buddy sends me the photos she takes during the junior college immersion. Those photos include the birthday celebration, morning class assembly, practical class and the collective photo of home visit. Looking at those photos, I realize that junior college immersion is really precious for me. I miss the classmates in victoria junior college and I miss the time we spend together. I plan to make a goodbye gift for my buddy as well as her classmate in memory of my junior college experience. During this one-week immersion, I know the local students better and I improve my English there. I receive their kindness and welcome, and I know more about their customs and culture. Junior college is no only for students to study, but also for them to improve interaction skills, to improve their empathetic ability, and to make more friends there. Victoria junior college has many other exchange programs that enable them to communicate with foreigners. Singaporean students are willing to make friends with foreign students like us.

Friday Reflection By Liu Hanyang

This week we have joined the JXP program and have a visit in JC. I go to VJC to have a journey. It is a junior college which is far from RVR. In this week, we have to get up early and take buses to our JC. This timetable makes us tried and sleepy in this week. However, the JC life is happy for us. The students in JC are friendly to us. My buddy Douglas is an interesting boy who likes playing Dota 2. In this week, my buddy guides me to visit his school and attend every class. His classmates are also friendly. I have made friends with him and his friends. I feel that their class is like a big family, and I can also feel the harmonious atmosphere among them. They play jokes on each other and talk happily. During break, they will play cards, listen to music and play games. The life in the JC is happy and warm, which makes me remind my high school life. During my high school life, I can have fun with my friends, talk with them and discuss problems, which is important experience in my life. Also, in this week, I find there are some differences between Chinese and Singaporean education system. Chinese one seems busier and heavier than Singaporean ones. Chinese students have to wake up early in the morning and go back home late. They have many lessons and lots of homework. In Singapore, students only have 4 to 5 lessons a day and they have CCA which can train their hobbies. In addition, I find in class, Singaporean education would train more cooperation ability of students, which is important in their future life. The knowledge seems a little easier than Chinese one, but most of them is similar. What’s more, at the end of this week, I have gone out to have dinner together with my JC friends and we talk happily that night. Though it is a tiring week, I think it is meaningful and I learn lots of things, which makes me more familiar with Singapore.

Thursday reflection by Xu Yidong

Today’s PE lesson was quite short—only half an hour. However, it was quite tiring because it was purely some physical training. It was like this: students are separate into different teams and each team is separate into two parts, each part stand on one side of the part of the playground. One of the teammate in one side is going to rush to the other side and clap hand with one guy over there to allow him/her to rush to the other side. All the teams were involved in a competition and the team which won will have two giant size of “plus 100” as prizes. I thought this was my chance to show a little bit because I have been practicing distance running for really a long time. However, after the competition began, I found it was definitely not the case. After the PE lesson, I reflected and finally found that distance running is more about improving your endurance while 20m running is about speed strength. Although I tried my best to accelerate, I owned no advantages. However, when it comes to the recovery, I found several of my friends still feel acidic on their legs in the next day while I did not feel tired right after I finished all the 20m running.

Wednesday Reflection by Xu Yidong

Today, I finally experienced how a PE class in JC is like. The PE teacher is a young man full of sense of humor and he was from NUS also. He taught us how to play free spin and managed a competition at the end of the class. Although I once learned how to play free spin before, I did not perform well in the competition and made several mistakes. I think I should have be more active and stand out to lead our team at that time because I may be the one who knew the free spin best among them. However, I did not do that, partly because I was still not very familiar with all of them.

My roommate told me that his buddy feel very surprised that Chinese senior high school students should not have CCA. Although my roommate explained a lot, he still feel quite confused and mistaken our PE lessons as our CCA. Since it seems that Singaporean students do not understand how life could be without CCA, I think I am going to explain this question more clearly on the presentation on the education system on Friday afternoon.

Monday reflection by Xu Yidong

To be honest, I was not looking forward to going to JC because I was crazy preparing my mid-term test and I am not very comfortable about getting into a completely new place that I do not know well. However, I am sure that this experience is going to be an unforgettable one and I may benefit a lot from it if I do things wisely there

I used to be extremely interested in the how the education system in Singapore looks likes. There are so many differences between the education system in Singapore as well as that in China and I am eager to find them out. The high school education in China is 3+3 while in Singapore that is 4+2. They both have a very important test which has the priority in determining which University students are attending. However, Singaporean students also have CCA and many projects that involve team cooperation, which have nothing to do with the Chinese high school students.

Now I have a very precious chance to get some firsthand information about the education system in secondary school, and know what our peers do and study during their school time. Apart from that, I am happy that I will be assigned a buddy who is going to accompany me during my junior college journey in the next few days, because then I can integrate into the circumstance there better and get an opportunity to know more about a Singaporean young man.

I hope that I can enjoy it and remember to keep a sharp eye on things happening there.

Reflection on Wednesday by Wang Haina

A sad piece of news arrived early in the morning while I was sleeping on the canteen table- my buddy was sick so she could not accompany me today. Anyway, I followed Wyn, the brilliant buddy of Zeng Ni.
For the first time in the week, at 7:45 am, Victorians had their morning assembly. It was a glorious event, a source of pride, solidity and joy. The national anthem of Singapore left me very nice impression as it was full of positive energy. The music was played by the school's orchestra club. Gosh, it reminded me of my days in primary school! Only then did I see an orchestra playing our national anthem. After I entered middle school, boring megaphones did the job.
After that was the National Pledge. The student spoke it at a very fast pace and in very standard English! I wondered why they tend to speak Singlish in daily life when they can actually speak English so well...
The morning assembly was like a news conference. The school leaders talked about the school's excellent A-level results, stirring a huge amount of excitement.  Then there were small talks given by various (non-profit) organisations in and out of the school to introduce their missions and ask Victorians to join them. Next, a school leader solemnly pointed out that some students have stolen yearbooks from their schoolmates. And lastly, we NUS VJC visiting group was very honoured to be allowed to go up the stage and say hi to Victorians!
Another remarkable activity today is Wyn's choir training for CCA. One of my SM1 schoolmates was also in the choir!! I learned that the choir in VJC is world-class and in fact ranks 7th in the world. The students are extremely hardworking in the choir, and they are able to learn a song in any language within one hour...
The training was rather boring, they practiced their voiced for half an hour, making sounds like 'mihihihihihihimahahaahhahaha' which did not make any sense. They then began learning a song that was neither in Chinese nor in English and sounded like a ghost breathing. However, I could imagine how beautiful the singing must be when it is finally performed in an elegant concert hall in Ireland. This sent me a clear message: all the shiny, stunning beauty on stage is backed by thousands of boring hours like the ones I endured. And what's more, only unfading passion is able to support one through these painful hours of practice practice and practice...
To excel is a long journey. That's it.

Reflection on Tuesday by Wang Haina

Today I experienced how strange the Victorian timetable is for me.
At 9:25 we finished our first lesson, which was mathematics. A guy in the class asked, 'Canteen or cafe?' Several girls suggested canteen, so we went to the canteen.
At first I thought they were simply going to buy some snack to compensate for their insufficient breakfast. Then, however, I discovered that all of my VJC friends were taking big meals to the tables!! Shocked, I asked one of them, 'Is this your lunch?' 'Break meal la,' she replied.
Later I learned that in Victoria they do not really have the concept of 'lunch', and instead they focus on 'recessions', or breaks, a lot. Whenever they have a break they rush to the canteen or the cafe for food! Therefore, five meals in a single day is not surprising at all. That's why a friend in our VJC visiting group commented, 'My life in Victoria is eating after sleeping after eating after sleeping... I sleep in every class and then come out to eat!'
Another interesting event that took place today was the Student Council Pre-Election in our class, 14S47. Two candidates (both of them are very cool Indian) made speeches and the whole class voted. The speeches are rather for fun than for a statement to serve the school. 'So one of the ways to show your trust in my abilities is by voting. The more you vote, the harder I work.' said one of them in a naughty tone. In the Q&A session, almost all the questions were asked by a Korean student, Soo Han. He has a fame of being funny and 'lame' in the class. He asked both candidates matter-of-factly, 'Can you dance for us?' And as they said no, he insisted, 'But you should try! When you are in the Student Council you have to try to meet the need of your fellow students!' Convinced, they both danced a little bit.
One unhappy incident, however. In the chemistry tutorial this afternoon, the teacher got mad because so many students were late for class. She was so angry that she threw the mouse of her laptop away and banged the keyboard, scolding the class for never learn to respecting her.  Even I was intimidated by her rage.
I personally feel that it is wrong for a JC teacher to scold his or her students, because part of their responsibilities is to give students a positive impression on the subjects they teach, and nurture their curiosity and interest in learning. I feared that many friends in our amazing Class 47 would beome passive in learning chemistry if the teacher got angry too frequently. Hopefully she does not, of course!

Overall impression (Jiao Runxing)

It is a meaningful and unforgettable week.
The moments we sat in LT1, having the principal sharing her knowledge of provinces in China, and buddies standing up to read out our names, are still so fresh in my memory, as if it just took place yesterday. Although I hated to get up so early, although I felt sleepy throughout each day, I am now reluctant to leave my classmates and teachers, as they are so friendly, empathetic, and active.
My buddy, En Tian, is a kind, thoughtful, considerate, and competent person. It was very nice talking to her, since she always had got a lot of experience and ideas to share. The class teacher, Mr. Ho, is also a very kind and interesting person, whom I found very similar to my biology teacher in high school in China. During the five days, I attended each class with my classmates, which gave me the feeling of being a member of a class that I have not felt for more than half a year since I came to Singapore. That was warm and comfortable!
Victoria is like a whole family. I like the environment there. During breaks, there was sound of the piano from time to time, and there were students sitting as a circle, playing games or doing homework. Once, I went into the tree house with my classmates and played games with them, which was full of fun! I also remember the cookies in Victoria, which were nice and popular. The sad thing is that every time I went there to ask for apple lattice, it was either unready or sold out. I hope someday, I can go to Victoria again and have a chance to try it!

I am looking forward to the outing with our buddies next Sunday, and I hope that it won’t be the last time that I can have fun with En Tian.

Reflection on Monday by Wang Haina

I never knew what it felt like to wake up at 5:20 every morning for a week, until this curious JXP programme. The dining hall in RVR shortly before 6 o' clock was pretty much like the one before an flight departure during our first Home Leave, surrounded by drizzling darkness and lit up with piercing light that the eyes found hard to adjust. I was dressed in the curious MOE red shirt and a black skirt I bought from Marks&Spencer just the day before... I kind of cursed the weird regulations on proper attire, envying the boys who could wear pants. We had packed breakfast of Baozi, Milo and noodles that were in typical RVR style, and then headed to the bus.
It was extremely dark, and light bulbs looked like pearls floating all around. I fell asleep as soon as I reached a seat in the bus, until our really responsible team leaders told us that we had arrived at Victoria.
It was in LT1 that I met my buddy, Elizabeth. She is a vivacious cute girl who loves to wear a mischievous grin. We were both a bit shy at first, but soon the ice breaks and we began talking about everything from VJC to NUS. Although she has been in VJC  for only one month, she already knows everything about it. She giggled (heheheee, hahahahaa) all the way through our conversations! Surprisingly, she speaks with a Singaporean accent that is very comfortable for me!! All these months I had been hating Singlish and I would never have known it could sound lovely and nice but for Elizabeth!
Their first class was physics. It was on uncertainty, something the Chinese education would regard as trivial. However, thanks to this lecture, I felt that the underlying principles in uncertainty are profound. Partial derivatives should be applied, for example, if you are to really understand why fractional uncertainty is so important.
Then we had a General Paper tutorial. As the name suggests, my Victorian friends were really working on a paper that aimed to practice their reading comprehension skills. We do the same things in China and NUS. I really, really do not understand why answering these questions helps one's critical thinking or skills of expression!!! They hone sheer exam-taking techniques, to my honest understanding.
The greatest part of the day, or course, had to be the chemistry experiment session! They were doing double-indicator titrations, and I marvelled at how organised and advanced their lab equipment is. All the reactants were orderly placed in cupboards that surround the room. Apparatus were sorted in their fixed places. Titration tubes were resistant to both acid and base, and the way to pump water in and out was simply pressing two buttons on a rubber balloon. Their chairs were designed to multi-function as ladders. When students needed to pour a solution into the tube which is very high, they stood on a beam above the bottom of the chair! The students are highly independent in conducting experiments. They went to collect all the chemicals and apparatus they needed with great speed and confidence!
I heartily feel that compared to Singapore's chemistry education, China still has a long way to go.
BTW, the food in VJC canteen and cafe was extremely delicious!

My VJC Experience(Liang Yuan)

Reflection of Liang Yuan
Monday:
Today is my first day to victoria junior college. I woke up at 5:20 in the morning, which is quite earlier than usual. When I woke up, the sky was still dark. I was very tired. At about 7:00, we arrived at victoria junior college. Then we were asked to go to LT1 to meet our buddies. After a brief introduction, all of us met our own buddies. My buddy is a handsome tall guy named Ibrahim. Before I met my buddy, I used to wish that I can have a buddy who can speak Chinese due to I cannot express myself well by English sometimes. Unfortunately, Ibrahim cannot speak any Chinese except for “Gong Xi Fa Cai”. What is more, he did not learn Chinese in junior college and he learns Malay instead. Although I was a little upset, I thought that maybe I can learn a new language. However, my plan fell through soon, because he told me that his teacher taught Malay by Malay. After the meeting, I companied him to attend his classes. We played together until about 7:20 pm. And because I was not familiar with the traffic, I returned RVR at 8:00 and even became the latest one back to RVR. This day is quite a busy and tired day for me.

Tuesday:
Today, I got up as early as yesterday. Because of lack of rest and the busy life rhythm, I was exhausted. After reaching the JC, I began to sleep until my buddy called me. When I met him, I found that he had shaved himself. I found he was interesting without beard, so I touched his face to feel it. I found that he was surprised and a little angry because of my behavior. Then he told me that it was rude to touch Muslim’s face. I felt quite sorry about that and apologized immediately. In the afternoon, his fist Malay lesson came. Considering that I cannot understand Malay at all, he asked me whether I wanted attend Chinese lesson with his friend. I was always interested in the Chinese lesson in Singapore, so I went with his good friend finally. I used to think that Chinese lesson in JC is very easy. However, after attending a Chinese lesson, I was quite amazed because I found that some sentences formed by Singaporean students were very good and those sentences were what I could not think of even. I think I know more about Singapore today.

Wednesday:
We attended the first assembly in victoria JC today. In the assembly, all the students sung the national anthem, swore and listened to the speeches together in the gym. In addition, we were formally introduced to all of VJC students as well. During the assembly, all the students stand straight and sit quietly. I could actually felt the students’ strong sense of discipline. Then I had two physics lessons with my buddy. During the second physics lesson, the students were asked to solve the same questions and comment on some new inventions together. Students were divided in groups and had discussions with passion. They helped each other and pointed out others’ fault without shyness. I was quite amazed about the creativity and creativity of the Singaporean students. At the end of this school day, we had a geography lesson. The teacher was interesting, and the talk with Singaporean students is more interesting. We, SM2 scholars, pointed our hometown to Singaporean students, and they asked many interesting questions. For example, my home is far away from my senior high school, so my buddy asked that “Do you need to take a train to school every day?” I think it is because they were not familiar with the concept of dormitory. To summarize, today is a nice day.
Thursday:
I think now I can get into sleep immediately as soon as I lie on my bed. Although I was very tired today, I felt happy because something interesting happened. What impressed me the most today was the humor of JC teachers. In today’s English class, students were required to deliver a 10 minutes’ presentation. When I was listening to the presentation carefully, I suddenly heard a sound like ghost shouting! I was quite surprised and looked around. Then, I saw the English teacher shook his ringing phone and smiled “time is up!” The horrible sound was just used to remind students! In the afternoon, I went to physics class. In that class, teacher told students how to draw diagram. I will never forget what happened when the teacher forgot what to say during his speech. “When the best fit line is drawn, it is no longer a…it is no longer a… it is no longer a…”He had repeated “it is no longer a” for at least 7 times, but he still could not think of what he should say. We students began to laugh. Finally, he laughed as well and said “it is no longer a hahaha.” I must say that JC teachers are very interesting and humorous.

Friday:
Today is the last day in VJC. After one day’s class in JC, we did not go to buddy’s home immediately. Because we three scholars would not come to this JC again, we stayed in JC until 8:00 pm. We visited around VJC carefully and talked a lot with our buddies. They told us some cultures about Singapore as well as the ghost stories in VJC. In addition, we all introduced our entertainments in China and in Singapore. Due to the sky was dark, we had to leave VJC finally. We went to Zihui’s home, which was not far away from VJC. We taught Yiming to cycle there because Yiming was the only one who could not cycle among us. During Yiming’s learning time, I talked with my buddy Ibrahim beside. We were both amazed that we could become such good friend in just 5 days. He said that he did not want the end of JXP to be the end of our friendship; he wanted to keep in touch with me in the future. That was also what I want him to know. Thank JXP for give me such an opportunity to have so good a friend! By the way, Yiming could cycle in the end. I think this night is more meaningful for Yiming.

My reflection of Victoria JC experience- Chen Heqing

Monday
Victoria & I

In the first day, I got much information about JC life such as the learning arrangement and studying environment. Actually, I feel very happy today. I did not have a good sleep last night, because I am so curious about my buddy and the life in a local Junior College. I am in Victoria Junior College and it is a outstanding JC. Also, today is an unforgettable to most of the JC students because that today is the time to take the A level result. During the whole day, all the students and teachers are really excited and hurry to get their results. My first impression to this JC is so different from my imagination. VJC is not so big but is full of sense of learning. Students' uniform is beautiful white color but easily get dirty and they also have extra clothes for PE class which is amazing. The first building I saw from outside the JC is a big canteen with many different restaurants. Although the time we arrived is just seven pm, there are many students studying there. My buddy is so helpful and kind to accompany me visit around the Victoria and introduce me to her classmates. Also, there are two Chinese students in buddy's class. So even if my Zi Hui is not so good at speaking Chinese, we can communicate well with each other. The timetable in JC is very different from China, students keep having classes in different classrooms or lectures and each class do not have a fixed classroom which they can always stay in. If one students want to have lunch, he has to catch the suitable rest time and hurry to eat something in case of missing the next class. In addition, PE class here makes me so excited. When I was in China, our school did not pay attention to exercising. During the PE class, our teacher just ask us to run several circles around the playground and then we can do whatever we want, such as going back to classroom and doing homework. However, in Singapore exercising seems as important as education. PE class is the last lesson on Monday, but my buddy does not have lesson two hours before that class. So even the students have to wait, the school still arranges PE classes for them. During the PE class, we did something amazing. We five classes did exercising dance together in the big Hall. It is such a tired activity for me, but after doing that I felt fresh and cool. So today is a good day, I did not feel regret about my performance and have expectation of tomorrow life.

Tuesday
The speech of getting into students' committee
The second day, there are still something interesting, such as watching voting activity for school committee, playing volleyball and taking part in CCA and Chinese class. Before we start the lessons today, students had a class called" assembly" which is organized by the teacher who is in charge of this class. Candidates gave us a speech about their reasons to get into school committee. After voting the teacher also asked us three SM2 students introduce ourselves. I did the introduction first of all, but something strange happened. I did not feel so nervous but is full of happiness. I did not feel awkward when I was speaking English in front of so many locals that is great progress for me. The first class today is two-hour PE class which is still strange for me. During this class, we played group games and played volleyball. However, it is my first time to play volleyball in my whole life, because I am not so good at ball games and really afraid of hurting my arms when I hit the ball. However, I had tried my best during this class. Even though my arms hurt, I can keep practicing and did not give up. After playing ball games, I took part in their measurement activity of weight and height. The numbers shows that I need more exercise. Because of curiosity, I joined in one Chinese class. Before I went to the classroom, I believed that the Chinese that they are learning should be very easy for me and I can find a kind of pride from my good Chinese. However, I was totally shocked. The Chinese that they are taught is absolutely not easy. They also need to learn certain methods of writing articles and the writing examples appeared in the slice are much better than what we SM2 students can come up with. I started to admire these Singapore students because of their high level of Chinese. The last thing I want to mention is going to CCA with my buddy. My buddy's CCA is common compared with other buddies, but I think it is valuable. It is also my first time to take part in local CCA authentically instead of just imagining in my mind. During today's activity, we learned to draw each other's face. Although I learned how to draw when I was five years old, it has been a history and I have lost that skills. The best part I drew is the shape of her face and they are almost the same. However, I had trouble in drawing the shadow on the face, therefore the picture I drew is just in one dimension. It is quiet a good experience o taking part in after-school activities. In conclusion, I felt a little tired through the whole day because of last day's PE lesson, but today is still a wonderful day.

Wednesday
Students are playing card games in
tree houses
Compared with Monday and Tuesday, today was really great. Firstly, the happiest thing for me is that we finished class at about 2:30pm. It was so excited for me to go home so early. In addition, most of our SM2 students went back at the same time, so there was no need for us to take bus home. That is wonderful. I did not have to suffer from one and a half hours riding and just took taxi home with classmates. Because of exercising on Monday and Tuesday, My body felt very sore. It was such a good time for me to have a rest and sleep as usual in recess week. Also I had the chance to have dinner at the correct time and enjoy delicious food. Secondly, there is no PE class any more today. All I should do is following my buddy and taking part in different classes which I had learned in the past two days. It is much easier for me to concentrate on teachers' words. Thirdly, I found an amazing object when I was exploring the JC. There is three "Tree House" next to the playground. Many students choose to play card games during their break there. It is so different from China, and Singapore students have more freedom on choosing their activities. In conclusion, the lessons today were totally interesting but for me I love rest most.

Thursday
Staying with my buddy ZiHui at
container house
After yesterday's good rest, I felt fresh, powerful and seldom get sleepy through the whole day. As the first class in the morning, we had a "assembly class". During this time, two students gave us presentations about themselves. I felt surprised that Singapore students will also feel nervous when they are speaking English. So, it is really reasonable for me to feel it as well and I can speak English better after practicing. After presentations, the class held a discussion about "4pm" voluntary-work plan. To gather individuals' ideas, the whole class was divided into four groups, wrote their plans on a huge paper and did he discussion as a form of group. Secondly, I followed my buddy go to geography and chemistry lectures. In my opinion, the lessons were great. During chemistry lecture I reviewed some knowledge that I have learned before. In geography lecture, I also got much information about the world. However, the only thing that I am not so satisfied with is the temperature in LTs. It was so cold as good learning environment and it would be better if the school can set the temperature higher. Thirdly, group discussion becomes another new method in physics lessons. With the direction of the teacher, students come out the solutions by discussing. Even if the question in today's physics class was no so difficult, the students still had exciting discussions. In conclusion, today is still a common day. However, because it is our last two days staying in JC, I felt the mood a little different from usual that I am not so happy about going back home.

Friday
The first time to get into the library
Today is full if excitement and sadness. I felt excited because it was the last day that I should get up at 5:30 am and follow my buddy taking part in some others classes, in addition, I would visited my buddy’s home at the end of whole day. I felt sad because it was the last day I spent in the Victoria Junior College and I have to leave those friendly classmates. During the whole day, my heart was always full of both of these two emotions so my reactions towards something became a little strange, such as walking around the table doing exercise. That is just a method for me to deal with the pressure after emotions. The teacher that is in charge our class is so kind to help take the photos of the whole class. Also, I did me first chemistry experiment with my buddy. We made many mistakes during experiment, but we got what we want with great cooperation eventually. Out classmates spent our final time playing card games on the tree house where people can sleep comfortably. Even though I am not so satisfied with my reaction velocity, I tried my best to join the game. When we finished our dinner and arrived at Zi Hui's house, it was already over eight o’clock. However, dear Zi Hui's mother went out and bought drinks for all of us. During the visit time, we taught Huang Yiming how to ride a bike successfully. Although my leg is not long enough to support me riding on that big bike, I felt really happy about his success. Today was my first time of coming back home later than 10 o’clock. However, I understood that I should take part in more good outside activities with my friends, which will brings me a lot of fun

The whole JC class students

Conclusion reflection

The sky of Victoria JC
Totally, I had a great time and made many friends during my learning time in Victoria Junior College. Firstly, this experience gives me a chance to know more about the local education system and our classmates in the future. Compared with us, they may have better skills of learning by themselves because not all of the knowledge that teachers teach them can be accepted as soon as it is taught. Also, they do better in time management because they have CCA during JC lives. In addition, they may have better health quality than us students who come from China because their JC really pay much attention on their arrangement of PE lessons. In that case, we can have more things to talk with the local students and making friends may become more easily. Secondly, we got in touch with many locals in this activity. No matter how we can do in the future, our buddies in JC have become our friends in Singapore. We can do something meaningful together on weekends and communicate with each other practicing our oral English. This activity helps us build our own Singapore friend circle. In the future, it will become very helpful. Thirdly, most students in JC are hardworking. All of these five days, we have to arrive school at about 6:45 am. However, there have already been some students studying there. During the class time, sometimes when I not focused on teacher, my buddy would remind me and asked me not to be sleepy. Although wiki signal covering all the school, few students took out their phones and did something haves nothing with the class. Local students also work hard and have high power to compete with us so it’s time for us to work more carefully to prove our abilities as scholars. In conclusion, though this JC activity occupied our recess week, it is really useful and meaningful. I am looking forward to taking part in more activities like this.

Appreciation activity reflection
Today, we held an appreciation activity with our buddies in Victoria JC. For me today is such a busy and regretful day. This morning, I got up early to prepare my gift to Zi Hui. But as a girl which is not good at making handwork, I felt hard to come up with a good idea about my buddy's gift. Finally, I chose to write a letter expressing some praising words which I can not actually speak out. Although, there are not many actual skills needed to write this letter, it contains my real emotions. I prepared it carefully. However, it started to rain heavily. The wet water drops in the air make my clothes wet and I felt annoyed and uncomfortable. Because of the rain, many teammates did not prepare well for the gathering and school bus did not appear any more, which causes our late of greeting buddies. Zi Hui arrived even more early than our plan. As a result of that, she kept waiting almost one hour for the last buddy. In the rain, we waited bus for a long time and finally we walked to UTown canteen. I do not know whether it is because of my hunger, I felt the food much more delicious than usual days and it was the only good thing that happens today. We had Si Chuan dishes for lunch, but I chose two not so spicy ones. MOE gave us enough money, so we really have a great lunch. Things start to become awful after lunch because we fell into a trouble of doing activities without plan. We visited many places in UTown which I did not visit before. Finally, we went back to my dormitory and visited sports center. Although today’s activity is good enough, I felt regretted that I cannot arrange more interesting activities for my buddy instead of just keeping waiting for buses or walking around the NUS. Next time, I will not depend on others any more. I will make a great plan of visiting Kent Ridge Park by myself and have fun with my buddy. I am sure that I can do better than today’s poor preparation. Please look forward to it.
