| Victoria & I |
In the first day, I got much information about JC life such as the
learning arrangement and studying environment. Actually, I feel very happy
today. I did not have a good sleep last night, because I am so curious about my
buddy and the life in a local Junior College. I am in Victoria Junior College
and it is a outstanding JC. Also, today is an unforgettable to most of the JC
students because that today is the time to take the A level result. During the
whole day, all the students and teachers are really excited and hurry to get
their results. My first impression to this JC is so different from my
imagination. VJC is not so big but is full of sense of learning. Students'
uniform is beautiful white color but easily get dirty and they also have extra
clothes for PE class which is amazing. The first building I saw from outside
the JC is a big canteen with many different restaurants. Although the time we
arrived is just seven pm, there are many students studying there. My buddy is
so helpful and kind to accompany me visit around the Victoria and introduce me
to her classmates. Also, there are two Chinese students in buddy's class. So
even if my Zi Hui is not so good at speaking Chinese, we can communicate well
with each other. The timetable in JC is very different from China, students
keep having classes in different classrooms or lectures and each class do not
have a fixed classroom which they can always stay in. If one students want to
have lunch, he has to catch the suitable rest time and hurry to eat something in
case of missing the next class. In addition, PE class here makes me so excited.
When I was in China, our school did not pay attention to exercising. During the
PE class, our teacher just ask us to run several circles around the playground
and then we can do whatever we want, such as going back to classroom and doing
homework. However, in Singapore exercising seems as important as education. PE
class is the last lesson on Monday, but my buddy does not have lesson two hours
before that class. So even the students have to wait, the school still arranges
PE classes for them. During the PE class, we did something amazing. We five
classes did exercising dance together in the big Hall. It is such a tired
activity for me, but after doing that I felt fresh and cool. So today is a good
day, I did not feel regret about my performance and have expectation of tomorrow
life.
Tuesday

| The speech of getting into students' committee |
The second day, there are still something interesting, such as
watching voting activity for school committee, playing volleyball and taking
part in CCA and Chinese class. Before we start the lessons today, students had
a class called" assembly" which is organized by the teacher who is in
charge of this class. Candidates gave us a speech about their reasons to get
into school committee. After voting the teacher also asked us three SM2
students introduce ourselves. I did the introduction first of all, but something
strange happened. I did not feel so nervous but is full of happiness. I did not
feel awkward when I was speaking English in front of so many locals that is
great progress for me. The first class today is two-hour PE class which is
still strange for me. During this class, we played group games and played
volleyball. However, it is my first time to play volleyball in my whole life, because
I am not so good at ball games and really afraid of hurting my arms when I hit
the ball. However, I had tried my best during this class. Even though my arms
hurt, I can keep practicing and did not give up. After playing ball games, I
took part in their measurement activity of weight and height. The numbers shows
that I need more exercise. Because of curiosity, I joined in one Chinese class.
Before I went to the classroom, I believed that the Chinese that they are
learning should be very easy for me and I can find a kind of pride from my good
Chinese. However, I was totally shocked. The Chinese that they are taught is absolutely
not easy. They also need to learn certain methods of writing articles and the
writing examples appeared in the slice are much better than what we SM2
students can come up with. I started to admire these Singapore students because
of their high level of Chinese. The last thing I want to mention is going to
CCA with my buddy. My buddy's CCA is common compared with other buddies, but I
think it is valuable. It is also my first time to take part in local CCA
authentically instead of just imagining in my mind. During today's activity, we
learned to draw each other's face. Although I learned how to draw when I was
five years old, it has been a history and I have lost that skills. The best
part I drew is the shape of her face and they are almost the same. However, I
had trouble in drawing the shadow on the face, therefore the picture I drew is
just in one dimension. It is quiet a good experience o taking part in
after-school activities. In conclusion, I felt a little tired through the whole
day because of last day's PE lesson, but today is still a wonderful day.
Wednesday

Compared with Monday and Tuesday, today was
really great. Firstly, the happiest thing for me is that we finished class at
about 2:30pm. It was so excited for me to go home so early. In addition, most
of our SM2 students went back at the same time, so there was no need for us to
take bus home. That is wonderful. I did not have to suffer from one and a half
hours riding and just took taxi home with classmates. Because of exercising on
Monday and Tuesday, My body felt very sore. It was such a good time for me to
have a rest and sleep as usual in recess week. Also I had the chance to have
dinner at the correct time and enjoy delicious food. Secondly, there is no PE
class any more today. All I should do is following my buddy and taking part in
different classes which I had learned in the past two days. It is much easier
for me to concentrate on teachers' words. Thirdly, I found an amazing object
when I was exploring the JC. There is three "Tree House" next to the
playground. Many students choose to play card games during their break there.
It is so different from China, and Singapore students have more freedom on
choosing their activities. In conclusion, the lessons today were totally
interesting but for me I love rest most.

After yesterday's good rest, I felt fresh,
powerful and seldom get sleepy through the whole day. As the first class in the
morning, we had a "assembly class". During this time, two students
gave us presentations about themselves. I felt surprised that Singapore
students will also feel nervous when they are speaking English. So, it is
really reasonable for me to feel it as well and I can speak English better
after practicing. After presentations, the class held a discussion about
"4pm" voluntary-work plan. To gather individuals' ideas, the whole
class was divided into four groups, wrote their plans on a huge paper and did
he discussion as a form of group. Secondly, I followed my buddy go to geography
and chemistry lectures. In my opinion, the lessons were great. During chemistry
lecture I reviewed some knowledge that I have learned before. In geography
lecture, I also got much information about the world. However, the only thing
that I am not so satisfied with is the temperature in LTs. It was so cold as
good learning environment and it would be better if the school can set the temperature
higher. Thirdly, group discussion becomes another new method in physics
lessons. With the direction of the teacher, students come out the solutions by
discussing. Even if the question in today's physics class was no so difficult,
the students still had exciting discussions. In conclusion, today is still a
common day. However, because it is our last two days staying in JC, I felt the
mood a little different from usual that I am not so happy about going back
home.

Today is full if excitement and sadness. I
felt excited because it was the last day that I should get up at 5:30 am and
follow my buddy taking part in some others classes, in addition, I would
visited my buddy’s home at the end of whole day. I felt sad because it was the
last day I spent in the Victoria Junior College and I have to leave those
friendly classmates. During the whole day, my heart was always full of both of
these two emotions so my reactions towards something became a little strange,
such as walking around the table doing exercise. That is just a method for me
to deal with the pressure after emotions. The teacher that is in charge our
class is so kind to help take the photos of the whole class. Also, I did me
first chemistry experiment with my buddy. We made many mistakes during
experiment, but we got what we want with great cooperation eventually. Out
classmates spent our final time playing card games on the tree house where
people can sleep comfortably. Even though I am not so satisfied with my reaction
velocity, I tried my best to join the game. When we finished our dinner and
arrived at Zi Hui's house, it was already over eight o’clock. However, dear
Zi Hui's mother went out and bought drinks for all of us. During the visit time,
we taught Huang Yiming how to ride a bike successfully. Although my leg is not
long enough to support me riding on that big bike, I felt really happy about
his success. Today was my first time of coming back home later than 10 o’clock.
However, I understood that I should take part in more good outside activities
with my friends, which will brings me a lot of fun

Conclusion reflection

Totally, I had a great time and made many
friends during my learning time in Victoria Junior College. Firstly, this
experience gives me a chance to know more about the local education system and
our classmates in the future. Compared with us, they may have better skills of
learning by themselves because not all of the knowledge that teachers teach
them can be accepted as soon as it is taught. Also, they do better in time
management because they have CCA during JC lives. In addition, they may have
better health quality than us students who come from China because their JC
really pay much attention on their arrangement of PE lessons. In that case, we
can have more things to talk with the local students and making friends may
become more easily. Secondly, we got in touch with many locals in this
activity. No matter how we can do in the future, our buddies in JC have become
our friends in Singapore. We can do something meaningful together on weekends
and communicate with each other practicing our oral English. This activity
helps us build our own Singapore friend circle. In the future, it will become
very helpful. Thirdly, most students in JC are hardworking. All of these five
days, we have to arrive school at about 6:45 am. However, there have already
been some students studying there. During the class time, sometimes when I not
focused on teacher, my buddy would remind me and asked me not to be sleepy. Although
wiki signal covering all the school, few students took out their phones and did
something haves nothing with the class. Local students also work hard and have
high power to compete with us so it’s time for us to work more carefully to
prove our abilities as scholars. In conclusion, though this JC activity occupied
our recess week, it is really useful and meaningful. I am looking forward to
taking part in more activities like this.
Appreciation activity reflection
Today, we held an appreciation activity with
our buddies in Victoria JC. For me today is such a busy and regretful day. This
morning, I got up early to prepare my gift to Zi Hui. But as a girl which is
not good at making handwork, I felt hard to come up with a good idea about my
buddy's gift. Finally, I chose to write a letter expressing some praising words
which I can not actually speak out. Although, there are not many actual skills
needed to write this letter, it contains my real emotions. I prepared it carefully.
However, it started to rain heavily. The wet water drops in the air make my
clothes wet and I felt annoyed and uncomfortable. Because of the rain, many
teammates did not prepare well for the gathering and school bus did not appear
any more, which causes our late of greeting buddies. Zi Hui arrived even more
early than our plan. As a result of that, she kept waiting almost one hour for
the last buddy. In the rain, we waited bus for a long time and finally we
walked to UTown canteen. I do not know whether it is because of my hunger, I
felt the food much more delicious than usual days and it was the only good
thing that happens today. We had Si Chuan dishes for lunch, but I chose two not
so spicy ones. MOE gave us enough money, so we really have a great lunch. Things
start to become awful after lunch because we fell into a trouble of doing
activities without plan. We visited many places in UTown which I did not visit
before. Finally, we went back to my dormitory and visited sports center. Although
today’s activity is good enough, I felt regretted that I cannot arrange more
interesting activities for my buddy instead of just keeping waiting for buses
or walking around the NUS. Next time, I will not depend on others any more. I
will make a great plan of visiting Kent Ridge Park by myself and have fun with
my buddy. I am sure that I can do better than today’s poor preparation. Please
look forward to it.
